1,251,836. Aromatic nitroso compounds. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 June, 1969 [13 Aug., 1968], No. 38710/68. Heading C2C. A process for the manufacture of an aromatic nitroso compound comprises heating an aromatic nitro compound with a formate of a heavy metal. A current of non-reacting gas may be passed through the reaction zone to remove the nitroso compound produced. Examples describe the preparation of nitrosobenzene and p-nitrosoanisole, ferrous and manganous formates being employed.
