Protecting. -Relates to ships of the kind in which the transverse side and bottom framing is formed of straight or substantially straight lengths forming one or more angular bilges at the lines of intersection. For protection against submarine explosions a bulgeshaped lateral extension is built to the side of the ship upon straight lengths of framing 12, secured together by angle bars 13 and brackets 15. A longitudinal bulkhead 14, and transverse bulkheads divide the extension into compartments, the outer A of which are watertight and the inner B are non-watertight.
