Abstract
1,250,954. Switchgear structures; vacuum switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 7 Feb., 1969 [28 Feb., 1968], No. 6753/69. Heading H1N. In a truck mounted multipole circuit interrupter a plurality of vacuum switches 2, 3, 4 are mounted on a wheeled truck by flexible mounting means including resilient conducting straps 20, 21, 30 connected between the ends of the switches and the spaced, horizontally disposed, terminal bushings 25, 27. The straps 20, 21 for each switch are connected on either side of a large contact block 18 connected to one of the switch contact rods 16, this block acting as a heat sink. Each switch is operated by means of an insulating rod 42 engaging a pivoted lever 38. A lost motion connection exists between the rod and the top 38a of the lever. In Fig. 4 a movable metal weight 81 is threaded on to the upper end of the stationary contact rod 16 and is caused by the impact of the closing operation to move up its guide 86 thus absorbing kinetic energy and preventing contact bounce. The weight 81, which preferably corresponds with the effective weight of contact 15, may be movable within a fluid-filled, e.g. air, dashpot, Fig. 10 (not shown).
