Abstract
1,249,928. Coated metal surfaces. DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP. 14 April, 1969 [16 April, 1968 (4)], No. 18929/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C4 and C5] Metal surfaces are coated with a corrosionresistant composition comprising a dispersion in a volatile liquid of (A) 1-400 gms/litre of chronic acid, and (B) up to 200 gms/litre of an organic component either consisting of B 1 a nitrogen-containing component selected from amino acids free from halogen, sulphur and hydroxyl substituents, lactams, diamides, acidamides, imides, and mixtures thereof and, where pyrazole or barbituric acid is present, optionally also containing one or more non- aromatic unsaturated C 4 -C 14 dicarboxylic acids or their anhydrides or ammonium salts, or consisting of 10-40% by wt. of the aforesaid B 1 component and 60-90% by wt. of B 2 a carboxylic acid component which is a saturated or unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or a polycarboxylic acid of at least 3 carboxyl groups, an ethylenically-unsaturated dicarboxylic polymer acid, an anhydride of the aforesaid acids, or a mixture thereof, the mole ratio of GO 3 to the B component being at least 0.7:1. (see Division C4-C5). Numerous metal substrates are disclosed. The volatile liquid may be water or a non-aqueous liquid boiling below 100‹C., e.g. t-butanol. -The surfaces are conventionally coated to a dry coating density of up to 600 milligms per sq. ft. and are then baked at 210‹-550‹F for at least 5 seconds. In the Examples steel panels are used.
