Abstract

1,249,883. Sampling apparatus. APRITOGEPGYAR. 25 Oct., 1968, No. 50849/68. Heading B8N. [Also in Division B1] Sampling apparatus comprises a rotatable drum 11 provided with baffles 3-6 arranged such that when the drum is rotated in one direction, material within the drum is lifted by the baffles 3 and guided by baffles 5, 6 to. fall into the centre of the drum thus being mixed, and when rotated in the opposite direction, material in the drum is split into two portions, each of which is guided by baffles 4 out of openings 7, see Fig. 2, in the side faces 1 of the drum. The portions are discharged into similar mixing drums (not shown), one on each side of drum 11, and the mixing and dividing procedure is carried out on each portion. Of the two divided portions formed in each side drum, one is returned to the central drum 11 to be further mixed and sub-divided, and the other is rejected. By repeated mixing and division in this way, a representative small sample suitable for testing purposes may be obtained from a large initial sample.
