[Also in Divisions A6 and C3] A method of forming a moulded article in a moulding machine, e.g. a reciprocating screw extruder comprises introducing into a thermoplastic polymer having a molecular weight in excess of 100,000 a blowing agent in an amount in a range of 0À01 to 5À0% by weight, based on the weight of the polymer, subjecting the polymer to increasing temperature and pressure to melt the polymer, the blowing agent being gaseous or forming a gas at the melt temperature, introducing the molten polymer into a mould and allowing the polymer melt to fill the mould to form the moulded article. The mould may be preheated or heated during or after formation of the article, at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure.
