Abstract

1,248,413. Mowing machine. BRITISH LELY Ltd. 25 Nov., 1968 [1 Dec., 1967], No. 55841/68. Headings A1F and A1P. A mowing machine for mounting on a tractor having a three-point-hitch comprises a frame 1, two cutter drums 8, 8a each carrying knives 12 and rotatable about substantially vertical axes and two supports 29, 30 for the frame which extend parallel to the direction of travel and contact the ground at opposite sides of the cutters, one of the supports 29, being infinitely adjustable vertically to position the support relative to the frame. In use, the frame I is coupled to the lower links 50, 51 of the three-point-hitch by means of pins 52 while the upper link is replaced by the telescopic rod 55 of the implement. Section 55A of rod 55 is secured to beam 54 and section 55B has a bearing 56 for connection to the remainder of the tractor lifting device 58. A pin 57 may be passed through holes in both portions to fix variably the length of the rod. The tractor p.t.o. is coupled to the pulley, belt, and gear-wheel drive of the cutter drums 8, 8a which contra-rotate to leave a central swath guided by the sprung plate 70. Supports 29, 30 slide over the ground and are adjusted in height by spindles 35, 36, 40 which may be held against turning by sprung stops 38, 38A, 38B. Supports 29 (the one nearer the tractor) has a broad shoe 32 to reduce ground pressure. Due to the infinite adjustment of the spindles the main mower beam 2 may be tilted about several axes. The implement may be brought to a transport position by raising rod 55 which, via chain 63, arm 61, arm 62 and chain 64 raises the mower about the axis of pins 43, 44.
