Abstract

1,248,355. Wells &c. CHEVRON RESEARCH CO. 13 March, 1970 [13 March, 1969], No. 12294/70. Heading E1F. Undesirable material 12 such as sand and fluid is removed from a well 10 by inserting a tubing string 13 into the well circulating foam down the string and up the surrounding annulus to entrain and, remove the material, and temporarily closing the string against upward circulation during any temporary halt in circulation. The string has a bit 14 and is supported by a power swivel to. which the foam is supplied by apparatus 22. When an additional section is added to the string, circulation is halted and a flapper valve 33 prevents upward flow of foam in the string so that the expansion of the foam keeps the foam in the annulus moving to prevent entrained material falling back in the annulus. A second flapper valve 34 may be installed in. the string.
