Abstract
1,247,544. Magnetic recording medium. A. MATSUSHITA. 18 Dec., 1968 [23 Dec., 1967; 2 Feb., 1968], No. 60135/68. Heading H1H. [Also in Division C7] A magnetic recording medium is produced by electrodepositing a uniform coating on a substrate as anode in an aqueous solution of an anionic solubilized resin, e.g. water-soluble alkyd, phenolic or acrylic resin, in which are dispersed fine magnetic particles, e.g. oxides such as -Fe 2 O 3 , Fe 3 O 4 , CrO 2 , ferrite, or alloys such as of Fe, Ni or Co, preferably whilst applying an external magnetic field to the anode, and drying the coating to condense and solidify the resin to form a film which binds the particles. The substrate may be a rod, wire, strip, sheet or tape of pure metal, e.g. Al or Cr or alloy, carbon, a semi-conductor such as Si or Ge, or of resin, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, cellulose acetate or ceramic coated with a metal film by vapour deposition.
