Abstract

1,247,434. Diaphragms. HITACHI Ltd. 5 March, 1969 [6 March, 1968], No. 11832/69. Heading H4J. A surround for a loud-speaker cone is pleated so that it can easily expand and contract circumferentially but not radially. The surround 9 has zig-zag pleats 13, 13<SP>1</SP> of the same length running circumferentially of the loud-speaker cone 8 and defining a channel. Radial pleats 19, 21, 23 define sloping faces 14<SP>1</SP>, 15<SP>1</SP> on one side of the zig-zag pleats 13, 13<SP>1</SP> while radial pleats 18, 20, 22 define sloping faces 14, 15 on the other side. These faces are also defined by outer and inner circumferential zigzag pleats 17, 17<SP>1</SP> and 16, 161. The surround is made by pressing a bonded fabric of synthetic fibres in a two-part die conforming to the shape desired.
