Abstract

1,247,217. Piezo-electric crystals. P. G. POZDNYAKOV, and V. G. ANDROSOVA. 16 Jan., 1969, No. 2543/69. Heading H1E. A piezo-electric quartz crystal bar element of rectangular cross-section, and cut so that its length is in the direction of the X-axis of the original crystal and its side surfaces make angles of about 45 degrees with the Y and Z axes, has electrodes of opposite polarity attached to respective opposite side surfaces of the bar, whereby the latter is caused to oscillate in the shear mode of vibration. Preferably, as shown, each electrode is formed on a pair of adjacent side surfaces flanking one of the edges through which the Y axis of the crystal most nearly passes. The zero point of the temperature coefficient of frequency can be varied by choice of the relative cross-sectional dimensions of the bar.
