Apparatus for measuring the rate of flow of a fluid comprises two thermistors 17, 18, Fig. 2 connected into a bridge circuit so that they are heated by the bridge current, both thermistors located in the fluid-flow path but with one shielded, whereby the rate of flow is determined by the resultant difference in temperature and resistance. The bridge unbalance is also amplified and fed to a trigger circuit comprising transistors 44, 46 to energize arcling 47 when the rate of flow exceeds a predetermined value.
