Abstract

1,244,128. Steam boilers. SIEMENS A.G. 1 July, 1969 [1 July, 1968], No. 33269/69. Heading F4A. A steam boiler, Fig. 1, has a combustion chamber surrounded by a wall formed by sides 1-4 comprising a band of parallel tubes which winds approximately helically around and up the chamber, the tubes being horizontal at a front side 1 which has an inwardly projecting nose 12, Fig. 2, formed by tubes, disposed between a first firing system 31 which burns blast furnace gas, and a second firing system 32, 33 which burns oil and/or pulverized coal. The nose 12 has supplementary tubes 21, 22, 23 connected by reverse bends 24-29, welded to and alternating with the tubes of the nose, each supplementary tube having inlet and outlet headers 20 and 30 respectively. In Fig. 2 the part of the band below the nose is supported by a suspension device 13 formed by a spring or counterweight. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the nose is formed solely by upwardly extending supplementary tubes (14) with inlet and outlet headers (15) and (16) respectively. The supplementary tubes (14) may have reverse bends so that they can extend upwardly and downwardly. In both embodiments, the combustion chamber has a funnelshaped lower portion 5-8. Burners, e.g. blast furnace gas burners may be arranged in the lower part of the nose to blow obliquely downwardly.
