Abstract

1,243,754. Cleaning surfaces mechanically; toothed gearing. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. 23 March, 1970 [29 April, 1969], No. 14003/70. Headings F2N and F2Q. A surface 1] of an electrostatic precipitator is cleaned by scraper or sweeper blades on a frame 1 fast with a rack 2 which is driven around a fixed track 5 by a pinion 4 so that the blades sweep the surface and are then raised above the surface as the rack rises to the upper run of the track, and are returned and then lowered into contact with the surface for another cycle. The frame may have racks at diagonally opposite corners and be supported at the other corners by counterweights 7, alternatively racks may be provided at each corner, in which case some could engage idle pinions. The debris is swept into a bin 8. The frame may be stepped to clean a stepped surface, or the frame, racks and tracks may be curved to clean a partcylindrical surface.
