The loading of a governor 9 driven by an engine to control the flow of fuel thereto, is varied by a first lever 14 which is angularly movable about a pivot 16 in response to changes in the governor speed, a first cam surface 18 on the lever 14, an angularly movable element 23 having a spring 26 to load a follower 27 into engagement with the surface 18 as it moves along it to vary the loading on governor, a cam 30 connected to the element 23, and a control lever 34 with a cam follower 31 to effect movement of the element 23 about a pivot 22, the cam 30 being shaped so that movement of the control lever results in a linear variation in fuelflow to the engine. The element 23 also carries a follower 28 which engages a cam surface 20 on a second lever 21 which is pivoted by an adjustable lever 39 and a cam 42 rotated in response engine operating temperatures to move the element 23 and lever 14 to maintain idling of the engine. The governor 9 controls the position of a sleeve 15 to control fuel-flow through inlet ports 6. A second axially movable sleeve 4 controlling flow through outlet ports 8 is connected to a governor 11 which, like the governor 9, is driven by a gear train 13 from the engine.
