1,242,368. Treating tobacco products. BRITISH-AMERICAN TOBACCO CO., Ltd. 15 May, 1970 [16 May, 1969], No. 23777/70. Heading A2C. A lactone having the chemical structure is used as a flavourant for tobacco, tobacco substitute or reconstituted tobacco, or tobacco products, i.e. cigarettes, cigars, filter tips, cigarette paper wrapper or the seam paste therefor, or packaging material for a tobacco product. The lactone may be dissolved in ethyl alcohol and sprayed on to shredded and blended tobacco in amounts between 0.0001% and 0.2%, preferably 0.0001% and 0.05%, of the lactone by weight of the tobacco.
