1,241,757. Dyeing textiles. FARBENWERKE HOECHST A.G. 21 April, 1969 [20 April, 1968], No. 20213/69. Heading D1B [Also in Division C4] Textile materials comprising tannin-treated natural or regenerated cellulose fibres, silk, leather, or synthetic fibres consisting of acetate rayon, polyamides, acid-modified polyesters or acrylonitrile or vinylidene cyanide polymers or copolymers, are dyed or printed with a dye of formula: .(in which A is a fused, optionally substituted benzene or naphthalene radical; Alk is 1-4 C alkyl; Z is halogen, CF 3 , NO 2 , CN, carbalkoxy, carboxylic acyl, dimethylamino sulphonyl, carbamyl, alkyl sulphonyl or sulphamyl; R 1 and R 2 are each H or optionally substituted 1-4 C alkyl, or together complete a heterocyclic ring; X is an anion). The Examples describe (a) dyeing polyacrylonitrile staple fibre using an aqueous solution of the dye containing acetic acid, sodium acetate and optionally ethylene oxide/nonyl phenol condensate by boiling or by heating to 120‹C in a liquid recirculating apparatus; and (b) dyeing knitted polyacrylonitrile staple fibre fabric by boiling in an aqueous solution of the dye containing H 2 SO 4 and a non-ionic polyalkylene-glycol ether in a paddling machine.
