Abstract

1,241,699. Condensation of vapours. E. KLEIN. 29 July, 1968 [29 July, 1967], No. 36127/68. Heading B1B. [Also in Division H2] A vapour stream, containing liquid droplets in suspension, is condensed by passing the two-phase flow from aperture 2 into a space surrounded by a conical sheet of coolant liquid 5 emerging at high velocity from an annular nozzle 3 constructed so that the conical sheet of coolant liquid tapers in the direction of flow. The two-phase flow is. formed when superheated liquid flows from passage 7 through convergent-divergent nozzle 8. Gas or vapour may be introduced into pipe 1 through a second annular nozzle 13 to ensure that the sheet of coolant liquid only contacts the wall of pipe 1 at its discharge aperture. The device may be applied to a magneto hydrodynamic generator wherein the kinetic energy of sodium or potassium vapour is converted into electrical energy; the vapour is condensed by liquid sodium or potassium, respectively.
