Abstract

1,241,575. Calcium sulphide; hydrogen sulphide. ELCOR CHEMICAL CORP. 21 Aug., 1968 [23 Aug., 1967], No. 40020/68. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions B and F4] Calcium sulphide which has been prepared by reducing calcium sulphate with gases at 1500‹ F. to 1800‹ F. is cooled to below 700‹ F. by contact with water under pressure, e.g. 10 to 100 p.s.i.g., the water being at such a pressure that steam formation is substantially prevented. The reduction preferably takes place at 10 to 100 p.s.i.g. Hydrogen sulphide may be formed by passing carbon dioxide through the calcium sulphide slurry. Apparatus in which the process is carried out is also described (see Division B1).
