Abstract
1,241,267. Pressure gauges. HONEYWELL Inc. Dec.17, 1969 [Dec.23, 1968], No.61477/69. Heading G1L. [Also in Division G3] In a fluid-pressure sensor in which a housing has a cylindrical chamber 12 and larger tapering chamber 11 having an end wall provided with a convergent-divergent opening 13 and an output means 14 comprising a first piston 15, slidable in chamber 12, and a second piston 16, larger than piston 15 and movable in chamber 11 so as to vary the area of the space A the arrangement is such that gases under pressure at ratio: P 1 , P 2 are fed respectively to inlet 20, 21 and the latter and greater pressure P 2 is sufficient to result in a choked flow through opening 13 to create a back-pressure and the position of the output means 14 relative to the housing 10 is a measurement, at 24, of the ratio of the pressure P 2 , P 1 . The ratio may also be measured by any suitable mechanical, electrical, optical or fluidic device. In an alternative embodiment the larger chamber 11 is cylindrical and conical pin attached to the chamber wall operates in a cylindrical aperture in the larger piston, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a further embodiment the pistons 15, 16 are replaced by vanes, Fig. 3 (not shown).
