Abstract
1,240,781. Toy robot. IDEAL TOY CORP. 14 July, 1969 [19 Feb., 1969], No. 35327/69. Heading A6S. A toy robot has means to move the robot in either a forward or reverse direction and operated by a battery powered motor in which a switch mechanism, situated at the bottom of the robot, is actuated by an obstruction in the path of the robot by rotation of electrical contacts such that the potential across the terminals of the motor is reversed, thereby reversing the direction of movement. The switch mechanism may comprise a horizontal plate 19 with two vertical pins 19a (not shown) and 19b at either end depending therefrom and pivoted at its centre about a vertical axis 29. During movement a first pin is forward with respect to the other until engagement with an obstruction which pushes the first pin backwards into a neutral position which breaks the electrical circuit switching off the motor. As the robot moves forward under inertia the first pin is pushed rearward relative to the second thereby reversing the direction of movement of the robot. The robot may also have two arms the first of which, 12, may be cocked in a spring loaded position by its rotation and the second of which, 12b, triggers the release of the spring- loaded arm by its rotation.
