Abstract

1,239,608. Epoxide - cyanuric acid adducts. INSTYTUT CIEZKIEJ SYNTEZY ORGANICZNEJ. 15 Aug., 1968 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 39053/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Branched polyether containing tertiary nitrogen atoms are prepared by forming a suspension of cyanuric acid in water, an inert organic liquid or a liquid polyether and reacting with an alkylene oxide and/or epihalohydrin, in the absence of an aromatic amine catalyst, at a temperature of 80‹ to 200‹ C. and a pressure of 1 to 10 atmospheres, to obtain products having a molecular weight of 250 to 6000. Suitable organic liquids are hydrocarbons, halohydrocarbons and ethers. An alkaline catalyst is preferably used. Another compound having reactive hydrogen may be present with the cyanuric acid, e.g. glycol, glycerol or pentaerythritol. The products are purified, after removal of solvent, by neutralizing with a mineral acid or oxalic acid or a cation exchanger.
