Abstract
1,239,171. Vapour engines. THERMO ELECTRON CORP. Feb. 27, 1969 [March 18, 1968], No. 10556/69. Heading F1M. A power control means for a vapour engine comprises an inlet port in the cylinder to admit working fluid under pressure to the region between the piston 25 and cylinder head, a valve 23 adapted to seat in and close the port and be knocked out of its seat by the piston 25 as the piston nears top dead centre and an adjustable stop 85 mounted in the path followed by the valve when the valve is knocked out of its seat. The arrangement is such that over a range of adjustment of the stop the valve moves up to the stop after being knocked by the piston and rebounds from the stop to the seat without again contacting the piston, the piston having moved away from top dead centre out of range of the valve.
