Abstract

1,238,987. Brake transmitting mechanism. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 23 May, 1969, No. 26430/69. Headings F2E and F2F. A brake transmitting mechanism comprises a fluid operated brake actuator 10 which cooperates with opposed ends of a pair of brake rods 5, 6 through a pair of pivoted levers 13, 17, the brake actuator 10 being mounted on an axle assembly 1 of a vehicle in such a way that it can move in the direction of the brake rods 5, 6 to equalize forces applied to the brakes. In the construction shown the weight of the actuator 10 is supported by a flexible bracket and the movement of the actuator is limited by stops 19. The actuator comprises a piston and cylinder assembly. In a further embodiment (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) the actuator piston and cylinder work on the pair of levers which are pivoted about a common axis, the levers being provided with a pawl latching arrangement which is released by fluid pressure acting in a piston and cylinder arrangement.
