Abstract

In a seat belt retractor, a drum 64, on which the belt (12) is wound by a spring 68, is keyed to a bush 50 (by the interengagement of ribs (62) and slots 66), at one end, and journalled, at the other end, on a bush 52 which is keyed to a stationary bolt 38 (by the interengagement of rib 54 with slots 56, (58)). The bush 50 is journalled on sleeve 48 which, on tightening nut 42, is clamped between the side plates 30, 32. Preferably, the bushes 50, 52 are of low friction plastics material and the drum 64 and sleeve 48 are of metal. A loop at the end of the belt (12) is secured by a spring clip 74 and spacer 76 to the knurled outer surface of drum 64.
