Abstract
1,238,431. Welding by pressure. DR.-ING. h.c.F. PORSCHE K.G. 9 Jan., 1970 [20 Feb., 1969], No. 1242/70. Heading B3R. [Also in Division F1] The cylinders 1, 2, 3 of an engine, e.g. an I.C. engine, are directly connected to a cylinder head 4 or individual heads by friction welding. The cylinders either individually or simultaneously are rapidly rotated when under axial load against the head whereby the contacting surfaces become red hot. The cylinders are arrested and the axial load maintained to effect welding at the points of contact.
