[Also in Divisions D1-D2] In the formation of yarn by fibrillation and shaping of film, a strip or band 2 of synthetic plastics film, issuing from a stretching apparatus 1 and maintained under tension, passes through a tapered die or nozzle 3, the resultant strand 5a passes around at least 270 degrees of the periphery of a grooved roller 4, the axis of rotation of which may be angularly adjusted Œ30 degrees about a position normal to the direction of the oncoming strand, and, on leaving the roller as a strand 5b, presses and rubs the strand 5a before passing over an off-set guide roller 6. Fibrillation occurs in stages at the die 3, where the strand engages the flanks of progressively diminishing diameter on roller 4, and where strands 5a and 6b engage.
