Abstract

123,708. Lane, A. M. Jan. 15, 1919. Stays.-Relates to stays of the kind described in Specification 102,252, and consists mainly in providing means in connexion with the frictionally holding parts of the telescopic arrangement whereby these parts may be adjusted to vary the friction grip and take up wear. The friction blocks 21, which project through slots in the housing tube 19, are pressed outwards by springs 22 provided with raised corrugations 23 projecting into grooves 24 of the blocks. The springs are bevelled at one end to fit a coned part formed at the end of a screw projection 18 fixed to the inner telescoping member 12 and screwed within a part 20 of the housing tube 19. Thus by detaching the tube 12 from the pivot bracket 16, the adjustment of the friction grip can be effected on turning the tube round. The block 17 carrying the screw 18 and the part 20 forming a nut for the screw are attached to the tubes 12 and 10 respectively by spinning-over the ends of the tubes. The pivot pin 29 fits within a sleeve-piece 27 provided within the block 13. The block is attached to the outer tube 11 by spinning the end of the tube into a groove in the block.
