[Also in Division E1] A method of sealing or stabilizing a porous formation comprises penetrating the formation with a fluid which upon contact with water in the formation reacts to produce a water-insoluble solidified substance, gas being liberated during the reaction. The method may be used for filling cracks in concrete formations and may be used in the form of a mortar for manual application. The fluid may be an isocyanate compound or it may comprise an organic-silane compound and having fine metallic carbide suspended in it. The mortar is formed by adding to the fluid sand, powdered glass, carbon powder or hydraulic cement. A catalyst may be added to control the setting speed.
