Abstract

123,494. Aktieselskab et Mekano, and Schepeler, H. A. Sept. 19, 1918. Thermal switches; sparking, preventing.-A short-time thermal switching-device particularly fur staircase lighting comprises a relay 14, which is energized in series with the heating-element 5 when one of the staircase press-buttons 3 is pressed momentarily, and immediately closes at the contacts 16, 18 the main circuit for the lamps and at 17, 19 a maintaining-circuit for the relay and the heating-element independent of the buttons. When the thermal element 6, in close proximity to the heating-element 5, has expanded sufficiently, it closes at the contacts 10, 12 a circuit for the lamps independent of the relay contacts, and, with further expansion, the relay winding is short-circuited by the engagement of the contacts 9, 11, whereupon the relay contacts are separated and the heating-element de-energized. A circuit for the lamps still remains through the contacts 10, 12, and this circuit is broken, finally, when the thermal element has had time to contract sufficiently. In order to reduce the sparking at the contacts 10, 12, contact 12 carries a horse-shoe magnet which, in conjunction with magnetic material on the base on which the movable contact member 8 is mounted, produces a blow-out flux between the contacts.
