Composite yarn comprises an elastomeric e.g. polyurethane, core sheathed with an unset, unstretched, synthetic material e.g. polyamide, spun or twisted therearound and in the form of a single capillary or monofilament. During knitting e.g. into stocking, the elastic member and, therefore, the sheathing monofil are elongated: subsequent contraction leaves an excess of sheathing material thus producing small nubs or accumulations which impart a slightly crimped appearance to the yarn and fabric.
