Abstract

1,233,144. Coagulating PVC emulsions. KANEGAFUCHI KAGAKU KOGYO K.K. 20 May, 1969 [29 June, 1968], No. 25611/69. Heading C3P. Paste grade vinyl chloride resins having a water-absorbing ratio below 0À5% by wt. are obtained by emulsion polymerization in the presence of an anionic emulsifier or a mixture thereof with a minor amount of non-ionic emulsifier and coagulating with a trivalent metal salt or a mixture thereof with a monovalent metal salt, a -divalent metal salt, a mineral acid or combinations thereof, coagulation being effected at 50-100‹ C. or at below 50‹ C. followed by a heat treatment at 50- 100‹ C. The vinyl chloride may be copolymerized with minor amounts of comonomer, vinyl acetate being exemplified. In the examples the coagulants used are (a) aluminium sulphate, (b) potassium aluminium sulphate and mixtures of (a) with sodium chloride and (b) with barium chloride or barium chloride and hydrochloric acid.
