Abstract

1,232,702. Photo-electric testing; particle analysis. COULTER ELECTRONICS Ltd. April 17, 1968 [April 17, 1967], No.10969/70. Divided out of 1,232,701. Headings G1A and G1N. [Also in Division G2] The invention relates to a combined white blood cell counter and photo-electric hemoglobinometer. As shown a multi-aperture Coulter type apparatus similar to that disclosed in Specification 1,166, 287 has an extension 200 at the bottom of the bath with flat, parallel sides through which suitably coloured light is transmitted from a projector 202 to the photo-responsive member 225 of a hemoglobin determining device. In use the blood sample is diluted and lysed to free hemoglobin from the red cells and this is oxidized (by a chemical in the diluent) to produce the desired colour. Visual observation of the apertures may be provided in known manner by a projector system (234), (236), (239), Fig.2 (not shown).
