Abstract

1,231,756. Box filling. CARTOTECNICA POLIGRAFICA A. & G. FRATELLI BIANCHI S.p.A. 7 Feb., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 6714/69. Heading B8C. Boxes are filled prior to closing and sealing by a machine comprising a conveyer 12 for a plurality of spaced, open-ended boxes 22, a conveyer 20 for a plurality of spaced units of filling material, the conveyers being parallel over part of their length, this part constituting a filling section 13 and means 24 to transfer successive units of filling material into corresponding boxes after they have been partially filled by convergence of the conveyers. As shown in Fig. 1, boxes 22 are taken from a magazine 10, opened at 11, transferred on to conveyer 12 on which they are filled at 13, partly closed at 14, glued at 15, wholly closed at 16, and discharged at 17 into a glue-drying station 18 and delivery station 19. Filling is effected by means of a third conveyer 23 carrying pusher means 24 sliding over supports 21 to push filling material therefrom into the boxes during passage through station 13, means 24 being guided by V-shaped way (55, Fig. 5, not shown), the initial section (57) of which is switched to the actuating position in response to switch 41 in the path of the boxes. Way (55) is resiliently yieldable and if jammed, the machine will be switched off by microswitch (55<SP>111</SP>). Flat boxes 22 are taken from magazine 10 by suction disc (25, Fig. 2, not shown) controlled by feeler 47 in the path of any filling material, are opened and transferred to conveyer 12 by opposed suction discs (28, 29) and lever (33). Conveyer 12 comprises three chains (35-37, Fig. 3, not shown) carrying supports (38-40) which may be adjusted to accommodate different size boxes. The supports 21 are also adjustable to carry different size units of filling material and are guided by guideways 46 so that the material is introduced into the boxes during filling section 13. Front and rear flaps are closed by conventional means at 14, the upper and lower flaps being glued at 15 and closed by side guides 62, 63 at 16. The filled and closed boxes are then transferred to conveyer (70, Fig. 7, not shown), raised by platform (71) between parallel bands (73) of drying station 18, e.g. in the form of stacks (72).
