Abstract
1,231,234. Telescope mirrors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. Oct.3, 1969 [Oct.3, 1968], No.46936/68. Heading G2J. Telescope mirrors have a layer of viscous material 4 Fig. 1, e.g. pitch intermediate the front optical element 1 and the rear backing member 3, the layer 4 having viscosity and thickness such that stress and strain forces induced by movement and ambient conditions may be relieved. The backing member, of fine grain gabbro or light alloy has good rigidity and stability properties which facilitates the relief of distorting forces, the relaxation time of which may be reduced by selecting appropriate values of viscosity and thickness for the layer 3.
