A method for producing on a support an image giving a stereoscopic effect when in register with a viewing screen includes preparing an at least partially lineiform reproduction from a twodimensional picture. The lineiform picture when thus prepared may be of the form shown in Fig. 2, in which, when viewed through a lenticulated screen 3, the central portion produces an image which stereoscopically appears to lie, as a B, in a plane behind the plane of the support, the border A of the picture appearing stereoscopically in the plane of the support. In one method, Fig.3, a photo-sensitive layer 7 is exposed through a grid 6 having a large number of closely spaced slits, a picture 4 being focused by a lens 5. Successive exposures are made by keeping layer 7 and grid 6 stationary and moving picture 4 and lens 5 to new positions 4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>. After processing, and with the left and right eyes at positions 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, an image will be seen at position X. Alternatively, the picture is held fixed and the layer 7 moved with or without movement of lens 5. Keystone distortion may be introduced by rotation of the picture or layer between successive exposure to further enhance the stereoscopic effect. An autostereo camera may be used to produce the lineiform image.
