Abstract

1,231,011. Trueing grinding wheels. LANDIS TOOL CO. 26 June, 1968 [28 June, 1967], No. 30373/68. Heading B3D. A dressing roller for dressing a grinding wheel for simultaneously grinding cylindrical and annular surfaces on a workpiece comprises an effective contour identical with that of the intended workpiece, all the operative surfaces of the contour being frusto-conical. The roller has portions 43, 44 which are diamond impregnated and separated by a spacer 45 and are formed with frusto-conical surfaces 50, . . . 54 for dressing the members 14, 15 of a grinding wheel GW used for grinding cylindrical and annular surfaces 8, . . . 11, 30 of a workpiece W. In prior art using a dressing roller DR having cylindrical and annular surfaces 21, 25, . . . 28, the angle X between the axis 18 of the dressing roller and the axis 13 of the grinding wheel equals the angle Y between the axis 13 and the axis 5 of the workpiece. With the dressing roller having the frusto-conical surfaces, the angle Z between the axis 42 of the roller and the axis 13 is less, preferably 15 degrees less, or greater, than the angle Y which is preferably 30 degrees. The thickness of the spacer 45 can be reduced to re-position the portion 44 to compensate for wear thereof.
