Abstract

1,230,439. Infra-red heaters. HERAEUSSCHOTT QUARZSCHMELZE G.m.b.H. 8 Nov., 1968 [8 Nov., 1967], No. 53171/68. Heading H5H. A radiant heater comprises a concave reflector 1 of opaque fused silica provided with a reflecting coating 2 of gold and housing the radiating element 3, which is removably inserted in the reflector and is composed of two sheaths 3a, 3b, of transparent fused silica housing heating coils 4a, 4b, and has two metal clamps 5 holding the element 3 in the reflector 1. Both ends of the heater are shut off by heat resistant stoppers 6 with tubes 8 therein for passing cleansing gas through the cavity between the element 3 and coating 2. The element 3 may alternatively comprise one sheath or more than two sheaths, each housing a heating coil. A plurality of the heaters can be assembled, e.g. in two adjacent rows of three heaters, Fig. 3 (not shown), to provide a radiant heating strip. Coils 4a, 4b, are in series or in parallel as required. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,045,439.
