Abstract

1,230,241. Arc-rupturing in switches. AMF Inc. 25 Sept., 1969 [10 Oct., 1968], No. 47236/69. Heading H1N-. A double-break switch S in an A.C. is circuit shunted by a triac D having its gate electrode 24 connected through a resistor R to the moving bridging contact 16 of the switch. When the switch is opened the arcs formed between contacts 12, 16 and 16, 14 form a potential divider and a triggering signal is applied to the triac D which conducts to extinguish the arcs.
