Testing grain and seeds.-The loose absorbent sheets on which seeds are placed, in apparatus -for testing their germinating properties, are pitted with a predetermined number of small recesses or indentations to receive the seeds. Fig. 1 shows a circular disk of cardboard or filter-paper with round recesses adapted to receive one seed each. It is provided with one hundred recesses in ten rows of ten each, so as to facilitate calculation of the percentage number germinating in any given time. Any sub-division of one hundred may be employed. In a modification for larger seeds, 50 elongated recesses are provided. In another modification, a rectangular sheet is corrugated in one direction only, thus forming long recesses to receive several seeds each. Marks may be made in the recesses to indicate the positions for the seeds The sheets may be corrugated in two directions at right-angles to one another.
