A fastener comprises a shank 2 having a curved portion 3 of length approximately equal to the shank diameter terminating at the perimeter of the head formed by cylindrical rim 5, and a cylindrical or substantially cylindrical extension 9 to the head, of diameter substantially equal to the shank diameter. The rim 5 has a diameter 2 to 3 times the shank diameter. The shear and bending strength at A is less than at B to absorb shearing forces without head loss.
