Abstract

[Also in Division C4] An elastic abrasive member comprises conglomerates of abrasive particles embedded in a matrix of elastic binder, each conglomerate being formed by a particle binder which produces a more rigid interparticle bond than the matrix elastic bond. The conglomerates may be porous and/or coated with a material having a strong affinity for the matrix binder, and the latter may be porous, and/or bonded to a support, e.g. of vulcanized fibre or cotton twill. The abrasive particles may be of corundum, silicon carbide, &c., bound, e.g., by ceramic binders, hydrated binders or resin binders, and the matrix may be of rubber or synthetic material.
