Abstract
1,227,897. Motor vehicle fuel tanks. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 9 Oct., 1969 [25 Oct., 1968], No. 49672/69. Heading B7H. In a motor vehicle fuel tank arrangement, a fuel tank secured beneath the boot floor 15 by a clamping band 13 has on its side adjacent the floor rectangular protuberances 26 which engage complimentary rectangular depressions 27 formed in the underside of the floor to resist movement of the tank and relieve the clamping band of shock loads which would otherwise be transmitted therethrough. The protuberances 26 and depressions 27 are so dimensioned that the tank side spaced from the floor to form a ventilation passage, and sealing interlayers are sandwiched between the contacting surfaces of the protuberances and recesses to inhibit passage of moisture therebetween. Protuberances may alternatively be formed on the floor and recesses in the tank.
