Abstract

1,227,422. Hover-train. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. 19 Feb., 1969 [26 Feb., 1968], No. 9196/68 Headings B7K and B7L. A mono-rail vehicle 10 is provided with bogies 15 which are connected to the vehicle by hollow rubber air-filled springs 17 and by a tie bar structure 20, 22, 23, 24, 25 permitting relative pivotal movement and which are maintained in a desired position with respect to the rail 11 by air cushions. The body is powered by two gasturbine engines 13 and has skirts 14 on opposite sides of the mono-rail. In addition, for lower speeds, e.g. through a built-up area at less than a hundred miles per hour alternative quieter forms of propulsion such as linear induction motors 33 or retractable traction motors (35), Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), are provided. The air cushions are composed of guide pads 32 which are disposed on opposite sides of and adjacent to the mono-rail, and lift pads 31.
