Abstract

1,227,323. Foamed cross-linked olefine polymers. MITSUBISHI PETROCHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 29 Jan., 1969 [31 Jan., 1968], No. 4973/69. Headings C3C and C3P. A mixture of an olefine polymer, an organic peroxide and a foaming agent which is decomposed by heating to yield a gas is heated under pressure of at least 500 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> to cause cross-linking of the polymer by decomposition of at least a portion of the peroxide and the pressure is then released to effect foaming of the polymer. In the examples polyethylene, isotactic polypropylene or a block copolymer of propylene and ethylene is mixed with dicumyl or ditert. butyl peroxide or 2,5-di-methyl-2,5- di (tert. butyl peroxy) hexane and azodicarbonamide, toluene sulphonyl hydrazide or nitrosopentamethylene tetramine and heated to produce foamed, cross-linked polymers.
