Abstract

1,227,122. Coal-cutting drums. DUN-FAB Ltd. 1 Jan., 1969 [5 Oct., 1967], No. 45478/67. Heading E1F. The body of a coal-cutting drum 2 comprises a cylindrical portion 4, a conical outer portion 6 and a pick-armed helical vane or vanes 8 secured to the body to extend around both portions of the drum. The drum may be formed by several, secured together, vaned, part cylindrical segments. Preferably these segments are flanged and bolted together at contacting flanges. An axial bore in the body is so formed as to be able to receive in a keyed relationship a driven boss. The keying is preferably effected by a square section in the bore engaging in a corresponding section on the boss. Axial movement of the body on the boss is prevented by one or more collars on the boss engaging in a corresponding radially and circumferentially extending recess or recesses of the bore. Preferably a recess and collar is provided on either side of the square sections of the bore and boss. The radial section of the or each vane is outwardly tapering.
