Abstract

1,226,750. Extruding. FIELDING PLANT DESIGN Ltd. 26 Nov., 1968 [1 Dec., 1967], No. 54861/67. Heading B3P. A horizontal extrusion press includes a transfer device to receive and support a billet container 1 for removal and replacement from a holder 2 on to a cradle 9 which is reciprocated by an hydraulic piston-cylinder unit 13 on a trolley 6. The unit 13 may be replaced by a screw jack, rack-and-pinion or a pulley system. The trolley is moved along rails 8 until it abuts buffers (17), Fig. 1 (not shown), and hooks 20, 21 on the cradle and the holder engage. The container is pulled out of the holder by the press cross-head 18. To reduce the replacement time two trolleys may be used. The cradle may be operated by an hydraulic unit fixed in the pit. The trolley is moved over the cradle and the cradle then raised therethrough. When the cradle is lowered the container is deposited on the trolley frame.
