Abstract

A monofilament twine 10 is formed by continuously drawing a bundle of untwisted substantially parallel synthetic monofilaments 12 along a path through and along the axis of a rotating die 28. A stream of molten synthetic material is directed from extruder 56, through passage 55 annular groove 50 and nozzles 52 in rotating die 28 onto the outer monofilaments of the moving bundle to form a spiral band 15 therearound. The temperature and pressure at which the molten synthetic material is applied is sufficient to cause the formed band 15 to fuse with the outer monofilaments 12 only so that the remaining monofilaments are free to move relative to each other. Any molten material travelling axially over the outer surface of die 28 is drained out through passages 62 and 63.
