[Also in Division C5] Secondary amines of the general formula R 1 CH 2 .NH.CH 2 R 2 , wherein R 1 and R 2 are branched-chain saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals having 15 to 24 C atoms are prepared by reacting a saturated liquid aliphatic branchedchain acid having 16-25 C atoms with NH 3 to give a nitrile which is subsequently hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst to give the desired compound. The radicals R 1 and R 2 are preferably derived from isostearic acid.
