Abstract

[Also in Division Fl] In a dispensing device for a valved pressurized container, having a discharge orifice in communication with an internal passage adapted to be associated with the valved dispensing passage of the container, a pin is adapted to close the discharge orifice, the pin and orifice being associated by resilient means which are deflectable by the pressure of the product to effect relative axial movement of the pin and orifice to open the orifice when produced under pressure is present in the internal passage. Fig. 1 shows a pressurized container 22 having a discharge orifice 43 formed in a resilient member 42 of rubber or a plastics material such as ethylene vinyl acetate, the orifice 43 being normally closed by a pin 40 so that clogging of the orifice and the conduit 36 extending between the valve and the orifice by dried and hardened product is prevented. When the valve is opened, by pressing on top of the spray head 20, a shoulder 31 of a spring-pressed plunger 23 is disengaged from a gasket 29, and product passes via a slot 35 and the conduit 36 and thence through the discharge orifice 43 which is opened by by the pressure of the product flexing the resilient member 42 away from the pin 40. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the discharge orifice 49 is formed in a preferably rigid plate 48, and the pin 51 which normally closes the orifice is of resilient material and carried by a resilient diaphragm 50 which, as shown, is flexed by the pressure of the product to withdraw the pin from the orifice. An air escape hole 52 is provided behind the diaphragm 50. In another arrangement, Figs. 7 and 8, the discharge orifice is formed in the resilient top 73 of a cap 61 and co-operates with a rigid pin 67 on a stem 59. The cap may be integral with the stem. The product passes to the discharge orifice via passages 60, 65 annular chambers 64, 72, and a swirl chamber 69, which may be substantially circular or elliptial, formed between an annular wall 68 of the cap 61 and a raised portion 66 of the stem 59. One or two swirlinducing entry slots 70 are provided in the wall 68. One or both of the annular chambers 64, 72 may be omitted.
